The hotel has good potential if staff attitudes were changed for the better, cooks were better trained and a means of transport was provided but without these it is a frustrating hotel and it would be better to look elsewhere. The hotel swimming area was a good size and there are showers and toilets. The hotel is on the beach but there is a question mark over use of the beach. Rooms on the ground floor have access to the swimming area and oddly are provided with a clothes rack on the balcony. A safe, wifi, tv, tea/coffee making facilities and torch were provided.
There was a balcony with railings to hang clothes to dry (the laundry service provided by the hotel was the usual VERY high prices). The only criticism I could make here is that there is no support railing in the shower for the elderly and the handicapped. The beds were comfortable, I had a good night’s sleep, aircon was fine, followed by a good shower in a very pretty bathroom with soap etc provided. The rooms are decorated in a country style with wooden slats along the walls with dado rails and a wooden ceiling and are very pretty. We had just left Krabi Island (not far away and the hotel is the subject of a positive review) where hotel staff had been very pleasant, as had the locals selling food etc nearby and the difference in attitudes came as a surprise and was off-putting. The staff at reception could be helpful and pleasant but they were just as likely to be unhelpful, bordering on being dismissive and rude and I replied in like manner and this hardly helped having a pleasant stay. When I pointed this out, the booking agent curtailed the conversation and refused to speak to me: this attitude was not restricted to the booking agent. The tour desk was only prepared to book the most expensive tours and we ended up making our own very satisfactory arrangements. We used Grab to deliver a nice breakfast. Only a buffet breakfast at a high price was available as room service did not start until 11.00 am.
The food in the restaurant was reasonably priced for a hotel but was a mixture of good for a som tum (salad), poor for a khao soi curry and the coconut ice cream was also poor (difficult to make a poor coconut ice cream in Thailand) – I have made many trips to Thailand. We had a late flight and were allowed to store our luggage at reception after checkout. They can provide transport to the airport but Grab is cheaper. If you can ride a scooter, HIRE ONE, however the hotel will not help. When I enquired about a supermarket, I was told that a 7-11 was a 15-minute walk away this is rubbish, yes there is a 7-11 but it is well over 15 minutes’ walk away and how you are supposed to carry back a bag of shopping for a family in 30 degrees heat during the daytime is nonsensical. I agree with that guest and the hotel did little to help guests in this respect, no scooters, no shuttle and no bicycles. We walked up to reception and listened to a guest complaining that the hotel did not provide scooters for hire as nothing else was nearby. Our family arrived in the evening and a quick look up and down the street revealed a bar nearby and nothing else. The hotel was booked at the last minute and I therefore did not carry out my usual TripAdvisor research first.
